Emergency Energy
Astro had been very busy running errands for the Ministry of Science. He hadn't gotten a break in quite a while and wasn't paying attention to his energy gauge. Unfortunately for him, while he was still out on an errand, all the power in Metro City went out."What's going on?" he asked himself, looking around at the dark city. The only light left was that of the stars above. This was not good. Either an accident happened or this was deliberate. He activated the jets in his feet and took off toward the sky to see if he could get to the bottom of this.
Astro's jets started to fail. He began to panic as he fell down, letting out a yell. The small robot landed on the ground. After a few moments of not moving, he attempted to get up. He simply fell back down. He didn't have enough power.
Atlas had gone outside, curious what was going on. It wasn't normal or an everyday occurrence for all the energy to the city to just stop. He wondered if there was any connection to the Tokugawa plants. Could something have happened there? He shook off the thought. He wasn't going there to check. For now, he was just going to continue the way he was going.
The destruction robot stopped in his tracks, spying a small robot lying on the ground. It was Astro! He quickly ran over to him.
"Astro!" he shouted. Atlas knelt down and turned the small robot over. He wasn't moving or responding at all. He looked dead. The memory of the missile exploding on Astro flashed in his mind. He shook his head, bringing himself back to the present situation. He opened up Astro's chest door and looked at the gauge. It was practically on zero! The small robot's systems must have shut down his higher functions in an attempt to conserve energy until more could be acquired.
He scooped up Astro and started running toward the Ministry of Science. Surely they would have some sort of backup generator that could be used to charge Astro. He made it there in good time though it felt like it had been longer. Atlas sped down the halls, dodging other rushing people. Where was Dr. O'Shay?
The destruction robot ran into someone else. He fell backwards, while Atlas remained standing.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" he complained.
"I was! You're the one that zipped around the corner!" Atlas shouted back.
"Wait, is that Astro?! What happened to him?" The boy quickly began inspecting the robot but was finding no damage.
"No, it's the Blue Knight," Atlas retorted. "I found him passed out on the street. He's almost at zero percent."
"That isn't good! Come on! Follow me!" He turned to lead Atlas somewhere. "I'm Reno, by the way."
"Yeah? And I'm Atlas." He followed the boy, hoping he could do something.
"Atlas?!" Reno exclaimed. "I mean... you're friends with Astro, right?"
"Yeah, pretty much. Look, we chat later."
"Right." Reno led him into a small room and gestured to a table. "Set him down there."
Atlas sat Astro down. "So, you have some kind of backup generator or something here?"
"Not exactly. The Ministry's already using all of the ones we have for, um, "priority stuff"."
"Then how are we going to charge Astro?" Atlas asked, a little impatient.
"I only have one thing we can use here but..." Reno dug through a drawer for something.
"But what?"
"Only option is you sharing some of your energy with him." Reno seemed a little hesitant. He didn't think Atlas would really go for that but he didn't really know him very well either.
"That's fine. I charged pretty recently so I'm almost on full." Atlas had no hesitation.
"Alright then." Reno handed the cable to Atlas. "Here's the connector cable. Plug one end into your charging port."
Atlas grabbed the cord in one hand while unzipping his top with the other. He then opened his chest door and plugged the cord in. Reno was plugging the other end of the cord into Astro's charging port. Atlas felt a small jolt as energy starting leaving his system. Hopefully this didn't take too long. He grabbed Astro and sat him up, leaning him against his chest.
"Just hang in there, Astro," he whispered.
"He should be fine soon. Just be careful not to give him all of your energy or you'll pass out," Reno warned.
"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine." Atlas didn't really care. Astro had done so much for him. He wouldn't even be here now if not for Astro trying to help him every step of the way, even when he was trying to kill him.Mar 1, 2022
