Microsoft didn't do anything to kill it, lol. I knew stadia was doomed from the moment it turned out you had to buy the games from the stadia store, and they cost the same as brand-new, even if they were a little older. No one wants to buy games for £50 from a company that has no history in the industry, and has a habit of shutting down projects with little warning.
Microsoft (and Geforce now) are about playing your existing libraries on the go - so even if the cloud service goes the way of the dodo, you still own those games on platforms with a much better standing in the industry (and in the case of Microsoft, you were probably renting the game on gamepass to begin with).
Stadia is, apparently, good tech. But it probably wouldn't be shutting down if Google just synced to your steam library and gave you access to the same games. ... Like geforce now does.
