Mughal Princess Jasmine

Which brings us to Part 3: the Mughal Empire
-
While most people set Aladdin in the Ottoman Empire, Saarah Saghir’s article argues that Aladdin’s 1992 version notably uses imagery & references from the Middle East (🎶Arabian Nights🎶), Persia & India. And at one point in time all three of these cultures and aesthetics existed together in India’s Mughal Empire.

My designs are again only sketches semi-plain for ease of animation. To really truly capture the beauty of the fabric, patterns & jewelry.... can you imagine if the 2019 costumes were good? SHE STILL COULD HAVE WORN PANTS.... and there could have been beautiful beadwork & embroidery & jewelry.. WHO THOUGHT THE TINY TIN-HEART JEWELRY WAS A GOOD IDEA 😤... off topic again. Doing all the research, looking at all the incredible references & fabrics really piled on to all the things I already was so disappointed within the costumes for the 2019 movie. Using South Asian colors on a European dress silhouette + corseting with secret pants isn’t doing it for me. I look at what could have been... I sketched up doodles from references & lament for what could have been.
