@azerttyo's post on Artfol

Artfol weaned me off social media and while I'm glad it did, it also means that my old folks are now doomscrolling ten times more than I do and it feels WEIRDNov 24, 2024

Omg I can understand that. Tho my parents don't have a smart phone, so they don't doomscroll, they have books tho. My brothers are the doomscrollers at our home
I use only Artfol and Mastodon as my social media (I'm on a small fandom-centered server), and I've been so much happier! I didn't even use social media that much before, but I used to doomscroll on YouTube for hours. Not anymore! Now I try to make my main source of interaction saying nice things on people's art and fandom posts!
Fr I have never used tik tok and see my mom fall down rabbit holes. I can’t trust myself with social media cuz I get sucked in. Unfortunately Pinterest has memes on it so I need to figure something out rip
(If somebody has a good Pinterest alt without ai lmk, I can’t look up a photo of a damn lotus without finding slop)
Same thing happened to me 😭 Artfol is literally the only social media I use at this point (i have long since deleted TikTok and instagram bc they were bad for me) and now my mom who -never- used social media before is addicted to TikTok all of a sudden 😭
I didn’t even realize how much of a problem this was until I started to become a teacher… Now I see what it does to a very young developing brain… And I‘m so glad my social circle was always a bit more anti social media, they really helped me get out of that swamp, like in highschool (ended in like 2019 for me) we barely used our phones during breaks, instead we talked with each others at one giant table as a class, something the other classes NEVER did! We still meet up every December as a class, or as many as can come, cause some study in other countries now
can’t stand most social media apps, they’re trigger my anxiety so bad
My mother had to convince my stepdad to stop using Facebook because he kept believing the fake news articles that run rampant on there. He would scroll for hours looking at all depressing and fake shit people reposted. After my mother met him, she had to explain a lot of stuff about the internet to him. He finally stopped doomscrolling after a lot of meaningful convos with her. My stepdad was an example of how doomscrolling can negatively affect people of all ages.
oh MY GOD I FELT THIS. My mom literally scrolls Twitter for HOURS a day and she’s on the WORST side of Twitter and it’s like ohhhhhhjfjfjgjgg
like bro can you get off Insta and watch an actual movie for once??
