Art app Review (pt. ?)

HELLO- it's been a while since I did one of these but anyways I'm here to introduce y'all to HiPaint.

I used my oc Tanya for this test/review hehe.

Hipaint is a new android drawing app that I stumbled upon a while back that's free and many people claim that it's a great procreate alternative for Android users.

I got curious so ofc I went ahead and checked it out.

Here are my thoughts:

Let's start with the good things shall we? HiPaint is easy to familiarize with, it took me a few minutes to recognize all the tools and all the settings and stuff.

The brushes are a tad limited but I think that's a good thing since it allows for more experimentation. Using it felt like I was using a huion paint and a medibang love child. I have never used Procreate so I have no idea how its interface works, I am however familiar with huion paint and the interface is similar with that, but the overall quality of the program is similar to medibang.

It also has all the necessary things needed for a proper working art program. From alpha masks to layer modes to the filters...

All except for one thing. Clipping layers.

I will now segue into the cons of this app. There's no clipping layers. Which is honestly fine by me I used to be an Autodesk sketchbook whore after all, but this could pose as a problem to users who don't have the same hax as I do. Another issue I have is with the merging of layers.

Every time I merge down a layer, the opacity goes back to 100% instead of staying as how i changed it. Which sucks when it came to my rendering process :')) (I remedied this by eyedropping every color after I set the multiply layer to a lower opacity)

And lastly, some of the brushes,,, the pressure sensitivity is just I'd be pressing my finger down so hard and barely any color would show up on screen. Maybe I'd have to mess with the settings a bit more, but we'll see.

Edit: there's clipping layers but it still has the same issue with the opacity thing. Also the last issued can be remedied by messing round with the minimum/maximum flow brush settings

Overall I give this app a 4/5. Very good for a free program but it does have its shortcomings
