@NekoRaita's post on Artfol

I think this post is going to be a bit of a spontaneous rant, so skip it if you want.

Recently I've been studying programming, especially the web part. Web design has always been something that interested me a lot since, for as long as I can remember, I've always had the internet as a "second home". But, researching more and more about web design it's so frustrating to realize how infested and disgusting the internet has become with mega corporations hungry for profit, like, it seems like every website is made with the sole purpose of making money.

Before, for me the internet was like a blank canvas where anyone could do something cool and show it to others, with the sole and exclusive purpose of "doing". But nowadays, every website is one big advertisement, masked by a cutesy UI that tries to alienate the viewer by giving the impression that they are having an "interactive experience", which is just intrusive marketing.

There is a web design competition, and seeing the most creative entries is a pure disappointment. You literally enter an ultra colorful 3D world and, after taking 2 steps, you realize that it is a bank trying to get customers. You enter a site called "Refokus" which has an interesting, dream-like look, which you assume is a site to breathe, rest a little, but no, it's a chat with an AI that can only talk about the brand Refokus (which I didn't bother to see what it was about).

Still on refokus, one of the few paragraphs I read talked about how, in an ideal future, AIs would do all the creative work, that is, "the value would be in the way people command AIs, and in the experiences that are generated" , to me this is just disgusting.

Ultimately I guess it's my fault for being innocent in actually wanting to make art in such an inappropriate environment.

sometimes I'm just disgusted with this area as a whole and seriously think about giving up
