So I learned that the best way to do studies (for me) is
Get a photo reference
Draw the line of action
Draw the shapes
Draw the lineart
Translate the shapes to your artstyle
Then draw as normal from there
I think the test of making sure you understand not just know, is translating a real photo into your artstyle while keeping your understanding of the anatomy regardless of the stylization
I hope I explained that well
Because at least for me, translating irl photos to cartoon/2d is difficult, so being able to translate irl to 2d while keeping your understanding of the anatomy of what you're drawing must mean you understand it to some degree, right?
So that's why after drawing from the reference, translated it into my artstyle to see if I truly learned anythingDec 11, 2025
