Thank you all for your feedback, we've been working over the past month to remake Artfol with the goal of long term sustainability. Our idea is to pivot the platform to have a larger emphasis on community challenges, and less on social features (this is by far the most costly aspect of Artfol). I ( @pockiii ) felt this is fitting as I started Artfol as a place to host art challenges, in fact it was the first feature I planned for Artfol, even before we had a prototype.This means some functions on the current platform will have to change, we won't be removing any core functions such as comments or text posts, but we will be changing some discovery features, which will allow us to revisit how we want to scale the platform while keeping it sustainable.
As our new focus will be on community challenges, we hope we can make Artfol a more creative place where we'll see a lot more participation in community challenges. Alongside this, we want Artfol to be the platform you all can use to host their portfolios, meaning we'll be increasing the amount of customization for your profile so you can truly make it reflect your artistic self.
There is actually a ton we want to discuss, much more than can fit comfortably in a text post, so we'll be working on releasing some longer dev-logs in the near future. We'll keep you updated when we have more info! -Dev team ( @pockiii and @genes )Jan 29, 2025

For me, as long as profiles remain as galleries where I can browse an artist's artwork and the feedback is in another place, I'll be more than happy, unlike platforms such as Blue Sky and Tumblr, where there is all infinite feed. That makes it very hard for us who didn't grow up with social media or the internet to keep track of a person's actual submissions (in my case, I was in my 20s when I started to be active online, so you can imagine my brain can't process that)

I'm looking forward to the changes and how they are going to impact the community, and to hear more updates from you! I hope it means that the challenge tab gets finally fixed because it's been quite rough and buggy ever since it was brought back (it refuses to load any older posts and loops through the same few first posts which makes it impossible to browse) and is missing things like showing the amount of submissions or even the deadlines, at least as far as I've noticed.

Looking forward to this! The challenges were one of the main reasons I came to Artfol. In fact, the Christmas challenge of 2020 was the first art challenge I'd ever publicly participated in and I absolutely enjoyed it! Thank you for the update, it means a lot to see devs that care about their community.

Really looking forward to seeing the direction Artfol will go. Though some features will be limited, I hope this means time and energy can go into features that will matter. Hoping to still see Artfol grow and expand the features it does have.

Thanks for the update, I’ll both scared and excited to see what the new changes will be. I personally haven’t ever participated in a challenge because most challenges I’ve seen focus on character/humanoid based concepts and I do more still life and landscape style work. I’ve been mostly using Artfol as a social app so it will be interesting to see how the new changes will impact it. I’m hoping with a more of a focus on challenges maybe there will be more that I can actually join :D
