A PMD Commission
An illustration commission for JimmyT1996 on DeviantArt ! I'll just copy-paste my DA description here again since I don't have much else to say but I wanna get it uploaded. xD"The Riolu knight and his trusty Mightyena meet with some familiar faces after a long journey and a fight with a fierce Lycanroc.
Also featuring characters from several other people by commissioner's request. : p I hope I did everyone justice! Surprise cameos have the tricky side that you can't just go and ask stuff as that would ruin the surprise!
I haven't done any illustration commissions before but this was a nice way to get myself to actually finish something other than quick Pokémon-ARPG doodles. xD With personal art I just always run out of steam after lineart but this time I was obliged to finish and am glad I got it done! Woo! Portfolio stuff that isn't like 5 years old, ahoy!
As for commissions, I still have no idea how to price stuff. Man, illustrations take a LOT of time. I know some people do it by hourly wage, but I'm afraid I'm not speedy enough with shading to do that. 8'D Sketch and lineart of this scale? Just couple of hours. Colour and shading? Oh no... I need a simpler shading style.
I didn't time myself with this as I kept doing this thing were I'd. Do what I can, ask a question, wait for reply, do what I can... cycle that until the linework was done, and then I could just sit down and get the colours in! If I had to guess, I think the finished pic took about 40-50 hours total..? And of that easily over half was colour and shading because of course it was. xD
I should prolly focus on doing cartoony stuff and character design commissions since I don't like the idea of asking 100+$ for commissions, even if it'd take several days of full-time work. D: Too much risk and stress. Or maybe I should dip my toes in that "YCH" stuff so I could do a fancy illustration and like... make different versions of it for several people for cheaper? I dunno. Premade adoptables are the least stressful thing for me since people can see the piece and then decide if the art is worth the price or not. :')
Well, time will tell what sorta commissions I want to offer besides creature/Pokemon-ARPG designs. xD Would be neat to make a living with art instead of always being an "unpaid intern" for indie game companies hoping to get funding so they could pay their artists, LOL.
