art styleIdk but an art style is really weird.. I keep being recommended “how to find your art style” on yt, and I’ve watched some in the past, but now it just seems like a lot of pressure to have just one specific style. I’m still learning- therefore things are inevitably going to change..
Am I the only one who thinks that or is it something that I gotta work on??
Personally I just find myself getting stuck and ending up not drawing at all because it’s just fun or enjoyable for me.

I think i sorta have a style but truth is it changes all the time, sometimes the eyes are big and round and other times i want a more realistic approach

I believe that an artistic style is formed in the process of learning and practice and that you don't need to chase it. All the time from the first time a person picks up a pencil until they stop doing it (or die 
) their style changes, maybe it's not so noticeable for some people, but otherwise it's simply impossible, because we are not robots to do things identically, and we develop and change every minute, whether we want to or not, for better or for worse, everything is relative, so don't get hung up on it

a great analogy i heard somewhere was art styles are a lot like handwriting
art styles aren’t something you can make in a lab it just kind of happens. you don’t train yourself to write a certain way, you just write the way you do.
and like handwriting, art styles are gonna change the more you learn about art. your handwriting isn’t the same as it was in kindergarten (at least i hope it’s not lol), just like your art may look nothing like it did a year ago, or even a month ago.
just draw in a way that makes you happy and the rest will figure itself out :)

•I don't think an artstyle is something that one has to "find". Artstyle is something that's naturally formed the more you improve. I think if anyone wishes to have an artstyle, they need to forget about artstyle from the start. I don't know how to explain that further but those are my thoughts.

I have never understood this thing of "how to find your style" until recently. What I mean is, I think that from the moment you put a pencil on paper and make a line, you automatically have a style, it's like your fingerprint or your handwriting. It is a combination of your skills and the images you visualise in your head and try to reproduce (no idea how this works for people with aphantasia). Also some choices while you draw are sponaneous and you are not aware of them while others are knowingly selected and applied for certain goals. From what I see, I think that most beginner artists ask how to find your style based on seeing very famous artists with very recognisable style, and guessing that in order to learn to draw you need first to decide how you want to draw, therefore what style (= typical elements in your drawings) you want. This is just my guess at why people ask how to find your style, I might be wrong. I have come recently to ask myself what style should I have, which sounds similar, but with a different meaning: I have been learning a lot of theory about drawing, and I found there are a lot of ways you can represent the same elements, and infinite combination of these techniques producing different effects and possibilities... And I wonder how can I choose among all these options. I think the choices define the style, they make an artist's authorship recognisable, which I wish i could achieve, but also I like knowing a lot of techniques and choosing them based on the subject and my mood and the avaiable tools, not based on a limit I previously set. Also I studied a lot of things in the directions of realism because it's the needed basic knowledge, but I prefer cartoon/comics style, and sometimes I wonder that I should drop some elements that drive me away from the style genre I like. Also different purposes and goals require different style elements. I think the style always evolves, artists just learn to make the good choices suited to each project.

It's important not to force a style so that art then becomes a stressful activity. Every artist is already unique in their own ways based on their interests, experiences and inspirations.

•Tbh just keep drawing what your hands are comfortable with!! I haven’t even really found my art style yet, but that doesn’t keep me from drawing without the pressure of finding an art style

Hmm, I only tried to draw what I liked over time and kept mimicking favourite artists' colouring, lineart & stuff. I didn't even realize that I changed since 2020.

Nobody has to "work on" anything. If you don't want an art style, or you don't feel you're ready, then move at your own pace. People develop styles differently than others; some are immediate, some are slower. Doesn't matter. It took me a year and a half to find mine, and almost three years to "refine" it to what I desired, and I'm still not done yet.

The people who stress about "finding" an art style are misguided at best. Everyone has their own style from the moment they start drawing, and it will continue to change and develop as you learn and practice.
Trying to force a certain style or wanting to be too unique is just going to make art stressful for you. The best advice is just to not worry about it at all, because the pressure on young artists to find an art style is only something I've seen pop up in recent years.

This is just my opinion on the matter as a hobbyiest artist, so take it with a grain of salt.
But I personally believe that the reason people say you should «find your own style» is mainly only an advice you should follow if you want to become a full-time artist such a comic/mangaka, doing commissions etc. People naturally need something to latch on to in order to be invested. A lot of people look at a comic online or printed and is drawn to it because of the cover art or the style in general and the same goes for commissions. They need to like what they see in order to decide they wanna invest money into it.
But if you´re just someone who wants art to be a hobby and something you do for fun, then the whole finding your art style isn´t as necessary imo. If I may use myself as an example, I do not have a consistent art style between my comic, my cellshading, my traditional art such as marker/coloring pencil artwork looking very different from my watercolor artworks.
Besides my comic, I don´t really need to have a consistent style because I don´t plan on selling my art to someone. Therefore it makes no sense for me to develop my own unique style or categorize my art as «anime like style» or «comic art style».
