@cebrys's post on Artfol

do you need validation for your art and if so where do you get it from?
I'll start!

likes & follows are an unreliable and unhealthy source if validation but i still want my art to be seen.

I seek out zines and big bang projects.I get to interact with a bunch of people with the same interests and cheer each other on and there is nothing better than that.
Art trades & collabs are great as well i met one of my best friends through that.

Social media is really only a place where i go and throw my art on expecting nothing. if someone sees it cool but its not nessecarry.
I don't think i ever paid attention to upload times and i don't look at likes and follows anymore and i'm much better off that way.

I get my validation from social media bc relying on purely myself I'd never continue doing anything lmao 🤦🏽‍♀️

I mean I don't get much of it from socials anyway, but it's still more than what I can possibly muster up majority of the time!

I'd love to get into more zines, but I'm not into a lot of things and they don't really have zines done for them.
And art trades and collabs scare me due to being burned on them dozens of times.
I do want acknowledgement for my work but compared to my friends I'm always more likely to be ignored or overshadowed by the algorithm. Likes & follows to me are more like just bragging rights but they mean nothing to me if people don't interact or leave nice comments...which is why I like artfol best.
I enjoy doing art trades cuz not only do I get art in return but I also get to see the other person very excited over the piece of art I drew for them
I do seek validation from social media, but I also show my art to other people sometimes to see if they like it
I try to not get sucked back into external validation from... well anyone/anywhere but it still happens. I also allow myself to either be proud on my own or dislike what I’ve made (as long as I’m gentle and know I’ll do better next time).
