Ostara and the Hare
Ostara is known for being the goddess of spring. Every year she's responsible for bringing springtime around. One year, unfortunately, she was late. When she finally arrived she saw a pitiful bird that lay dying in the cold snow. Because she felt it was her fault, she took it upon herself to heal the little bird. The cold had taken a grand toll on its wings, so Ostara decided to turn the bird into a Hare. Lepus would be his name. As an honor to his reincarnation of a bird he was still able to lay eggs. Also she made him stronger and faster than every haunter that would ever roam the earth! At first Ostara and Lepus became friends, but it wasn't long until they became lovers. However, after some time Ostara caught Lepus lying with another woman. She was furious and hurt, so she cast Lepus into the skies. Here he turned into the constellation we now know as "The Hare", lying at the feet of Orion, known as "The Hunter".
The years went by and Ostara her pain softened a bit. She granted for Lepus to come back to earth once each year. It was during the festival to celebrate Ostara, that he was allowed to lay his colorful eggs for children to find. And at the end of that day he would hop away and jump back in the skies.Apr 26, 2021
