Because a peanut doesn't grow out of the ground blue. What they mean by 'real' is 'natural', and it's to provide the distinction to the young that something real happens in nature and something artifical (i.e a painted blue peanut) is made by a person.
It will help them determine reality from fantasy, keep them grounded in obtaining something realistic instead of putting hope in something that cannot happen unless someone else tricked them into believing it.
