Copying a rant from earlier today made on my Tumblr here:
I'm starting to think its probably for the best if anti-crypto people stop LEADING with the fact that crypto is bad because its environmentally damaging, and instead focus on the other reasons why its bad.
Its super important to mention that it is, dont get me wrong.
But then you just get companies going and announcing "environmentally friendly" NFTs, despite the fact that
A) The environmentally damaging aspect is NOT the only reason people have complaints about the tech
And
B) Offsetting carbon, or buying green electricity to power the mining rigs, does not fix the environmental damage of crypto. It is designed to be as power-hungry as possible, and for the power use to increase with every transaction. Planting trees, or buying green energy, doesnt change the technology being extremely wasteful by design.
Lets lead with the fact crypto, and NFTs, are a greater fool scam. That they're a kind of ponzi scheme. That as soon as new people stop joining the pyramid, it will topple and the people at the bottom will be left picking up the pieces and losing money.
Don't make the top reason not to support crypto easy to handwave away with token gestures. We have to lead with "Its literally a scam" instead.Jan 31, 2022

Yesssss, the scamminess of it all is literally the main reason i hate them, pointing that out will get way more ppl to understand that its not worth it rather than its impact on the environment. Nobody likes a scam
