Alrighty SO! I have a question for any and all who know an answer. I recently got Instagram for the first time (no previous social media use, EVER) and so I was wondering if any Insta users would give me tips or things I should know about Insta, as I am very Social Media-illiterate haha. Uninstall it and spend your time/energy here, where it'll be appreciated and unmanipulated.
Since you just created an ig acct, you're probably getting a lot of Likes, Stories views, followers, etc. A lot of activity in general. This attention is meant to get you interested in the app and will quickly dissipate once the shiny newness of your acct wears off. After that, you'll be constantly stressed, chasing the dragon of the engagement your acct once enjoyed. No matter how casually you're using your IG acct, the slump in attention will start to wear on you and effect your confidence. You may feel desperate enough to act in ways that you otherwise wouldn't, just so you can keep from disappearing and being forgotten by your audience. Go too long without posting? IG will remove your followers to make you think they've lost interest. Make hasty tiktoks/reels to reinvigorate your acct? Radio silence. You've done something you didn't want to and don't even have new followers to show for it. You scroll looking for answers and see low effort posts get millions of views and likes while you're left to stew in am envious, frustrated corner. The leadership of IG tries to reassure you they're here to support you, but you still somehow always feel hollower after being on Instagram.
Maybe this sounds dramatic, but I'm speaking from first hand experience, what I've seen others go through, and what they've told me. I'm telling you what I wish someone had told me 4 years ago when I first starting using Instagram. I think you're lucky bc Artfol exists now, as an alternative to ig's toxicity, so I recommend you put your effort into posting and having actual fun on here. You say in your profile that you're in school and working part-time; the fact you can't post that frequently will hobble you on ig, whereas it doesnt matter here on Artfol.
