I'm in love with my magical boy story but I don't know if I should do it... Idk I guess my grandfather's words hit too hard forw to handle

I told him about my webnovel and he's a very traditional style writer. Essentially he said that writing takes lots of drafts (I already knew that) so I responded that I'm just posting the webnovel as a first draft just so it's out there and I can make it a final book later. He said that everyone's first drafts are terrible and that nobody wants to read my first draft. I get that, I know that. But here's why it hit my insecurities so hard

I have both an anxiety disorder and depressive disorder. So those often combine to make things harder to do and makes every little thing hit so much harder, especially because I try not to read into things but I genuinely can't help it. On top of that, I know that the thing that always keeps me from publishing my works is losing the joy in the project, and editing and burnout and depression all suck the joy out of projects, and the ADHD moving from idea to idea doesn't help either.

The thing is, I was already feeling terrible and considering abandoning my webnovel. Now I'm feeling like I should because at least with having the webnovel as a first draft, the story would be told and I'd get that little bit of pride that it's at least told. And while I understand that nobody wants to read a mediocre authors first draft (he didn't call me mediocre, but I know I am), if nobody's even going to read it then what's the point of making it in the first place?

And that translates over to my magical boy story because now I have that extra insecurity about wether or not anyome actually cares, added on to my preexisting insecurities about my ability to create and finish anything. Now anytime I think about that interaction, my brain goes to the fact that I don't feel my story is worth being told if there's a chance that nobody will read it. The whole reason I started my YouTube channel, started posting my art and OCs, and all of that is because I want my stories to be heard, and even more, to be cared about.

So what's the point of doing anything with my stories if nobody except family cares about them? And family only interested because they care about me not about my stories... And even worse, I can't even finish making a story public so nobody gets the chance to know them.

My stories are the only thing that gives me a sense of purpose... Because I don't see worth in myself except in my ability to make stories...

If something that's objectively good exists, be it anything from any media it had to have a really simple, or off looking version that just not many saw. Make it exist first, then make it good later. Things with a story in my opinion are changed in soo many aspects in the process that the final product might aswell barely resemble the prototype or whatever. Just beacause that way of thinking works for your grandfather, doesnt mean it's compatible with your way of processing things. Thought i'd share my opinion, don't take it seriously though.
"Everybody's drafts are terrible and nobody wants to read them" damn, ever heard of a concept? Of laying down the general story? Or just posting a draft to see if people were interested in reading it? Not to mention that people can do something purely for fun 🙂 I'm so sorry that you don't have support from your loved ones when it comes to making stories (I know how that bs feels 😒) :/ I know how it feels to think that people don't care about what you post but trust me it only feels like that! After all you have a following for a reason :)
I know this is a vent and maybe you might not want to read this, but I completely understand that feeling of insufficiency. Words cut deep even when they try to come from a good place. I say write that story, make that first draft and publish that webnovel anyway. Because in an era where everything is surrounded by AI slop and artificial nonsense, we need more stories made by humans and we want to get our voices out there. You have way more value than making stories and if writing makes you happy, use it. Revel in it. Share it with the world. You can't appeal to everyone because it's impossible. But there are people that are actually interested in seeing your take on a magical boy story (I'm one of them 'cause the concept sounds unique and neat). I know this is MUCH easier said than done, but do it scared. I'm trying to draw a graphic novel, and I get the same doubts and it's a reason why it has taken me like... 7 years now to do it. Enjoy the process, don't rush yourself. But most of all: take care of yourself. ❤️
