grief and rebirth with apollo & hyacinth
greek mythology piece #7description/analysis:
this turned out a bit scrappy because it was an experimental piece where i just threw things at the paper but anywho we are pushing through!
this work is about the relationship between hyacinth/hyacinthus and apollo as well as the mourning and rebirth involved with the story. hyacinth isn't actually THERE in this piece but is somewhat of a ghostly figure (for a lack of better words) watching over apollo as he grieves for him through the creation of the hyacinth flower with hyacinth's blood (to symbolize rebirth.) the garments that the two are wearing have symbolism as well! the purple on apollo represents high status as well as pain, grief, and mourning and the red on hyacinth represents life and regeneration. the discus that caused hyacinth's death is also in the left corner accompanying other small additions.
