A question for other artists: how do you go about pricing commissions? I was thinking that for a drawing that was a full body with detail and color and no bg making it 40. Wages (at least minimum wage for your area) times hours plus materials. Give clients an itemized list/invoice/bill so they understand why you’re charging what you are.

I personally am my biggest critic when it comes to commissions, I ask myself "how much would I pay for this quality of work?", also take into consideration how long it will take you to finish. Essentially, clients are paying for your time, so think of your hourly rate. Also try to find art styles similar to yours and see that artists rates. I hope this helps!

I price mine based on how long it takes, aka I charge per hour. I give an estimate after my commissioner gives me a description, and then finalise (it would be close to the estimate but slightly cheaper or more expensive depending on how things actually went) when I’m done with the piece.
That’s just how I work though. Definitely don’t underprice yourself, I think time taken is a good guide if you want to give a fixed price as well.

I’d say go for $50 if $40 seems too low :-) People want a piece from you for your style!! If you feel like your art should be worth more, do it up!! Then as more and more people commission you, raise your prices! And please do not worry about other people getting commissioned. There is so much money out there, it’s up to them and not you haha. Cheers!

If you can, try to make sure you’re making at least minimum wage based on how many hours you think it would take you. I personally think $40 is a good price for your style, though I don’t really know what the “going rates” are for personal commissions rn lol so take that either a grain of salt
