In the theme of Pride month coming up, this is a general question. What do you think of lgbt representation in media so far? Is it good? Could it be better? Or could you do without it? For those writing stories, are there any lgbt characters in it?May 30, 2021

Honestly I think it’s pretty bad. They make the whole embodiment of a gay character that they are gay. That’s it. It’s really boring and a lot of the times it feels like two characters are only together because they are gay not because they like each other. I think anime has some good 3-dimensional gay characters but they of course never fully commit. That said, I did recently watch Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence and I thought that was very good. That’s an old movie though.

Honestly it has gotten a lot better. Smaller creators and media tend to have better representation. I just wish we had more stories where being LGBTQ wasn’t the biggest struggle and instead it was just a part of the character in a story with a bigger plot? To normalize it more?? Idk if that makes sense

Compared to how LGBTQ characters were represented in the media in the 20th century, I believe representation has gotten WAY better. However, I wish there was a lot more transgender characters without them being harmfully represented, but what we have so far is good.
