After some time, I've returned to the BG3 anthro series!The idea to base Wyll's anthro version on a lion was a pretty obvious one for me - It's a classic symbolism for highborn characters, even if Wyll is a bit of a subversion of usual royal tropes by being a disgraced son of a duke. His return to Baldur's Gate is as much of a return of a wayward son, as it is a return of a rightful heir (even if Ravengard is an elected duke, not a dynastic one, Wyll's questline with Ansur is very much themed around him surpassing his father as the protector of the city.
Lion also usually symbolises courage - a trait Wyll has in spades. A leashed big cat is also a nonchalant expression of power, reminescent of how Mizora treats Wyll like a disobedient pet. And in a similar way to such a caged trophy, Wyll being able to break out of servitude is a matter of him breaking through learned helplessness, and realising he is able to stand by his own strenght alone.Apr 10, 2025
