Also, to anyone in the closet: ya, I get it, my parents are homophobic but slowly coming around (a whole can of worms with me finally being successful enough for that is involved here). Haven't told them yet but it's blatantly obvious bc I've been hyping Batwoman and Harley, and complaining about the lack of Midnighter appearances in extended universe for a while.
And to the kiddos: Ya, it does get better.
At 16-18, I was working various shitty fast food jobs while deeply in the closet.
At 19, I was doing an unpaid remote internship at a shitty media startup with a CEO who was more than subtly racist and creepy about queer women. Also closeted, especially after the fucker decided to force us to stop covering the fallout of Rowling going full mask-off transphobic, all because some Harry Potter stans started throwing a shitfest over their goddess being criticized. I left, with a recommendation and a small writing portfolio of comics articles about both indies and big two.
At 20, I've started a remote paid internship with a small accounting firm that makes good on its promises of diversity and inclusion. I'm happy and feeling safe enough to be out, and my offer has been extended. No idea what happened to that startup, but I hope they've gone bankrupt lolJun 1, 2021
