Hold your pets dearly.. For the past 6 years that we have been living here, we thought we were in a pet-friendly neighborhood. Last night, at around 23:15, we lost our cat due to poisoning. Some disgusting human being poisoned our Τσίφτη, another pet cat, and who knows how many more. This kind of poison is called "φόλα" here in Greece. I still can't wrap my head around it. Our loving boy, who we raised with his siblings by hand since they were 5 days old, is gone. In the morning, he was perfectly fine. At night, he came home running with spasms, foaming and diarrhea. It took us around 15 minutes to get him to the nearest vet clinic.. He died at their table. He now lies in our yard, and we will plant a tree in his honor. I feel immeasurable grief.. and anger. People like this deserve the plague and worse.
Now we are completely lost. We don't know how to protect our remaining 2 cats. They've always been both indoors and outdoors.. Does anyone know if it's even possible to turn them into indoor cats? One of them is 3 years old, and the other one is 5 years old. Females and spayed. Any tips would be helpful, because we have no idea what to do..Jul 31, 2023

•Thats terrible to hear. Since some time cats are main target to abuse around the world afair. If your cats are learned outdoor/indoor lifestyle, changing it may take a while. Others said what you should do. The best thing to occupy your cats during "indoor training" is to create playground for them in one room. Once their predator mind will get use to artificial outdoor simulation room, they won't need to go outside anymore. Cat is active animal so they really need such playground to be in everyday. I hope they will be safe & noone will hurt them.

•We turned all our cats indoor cat by blocking all their escape routes to outside. They definetely didn't liked the change at all in the beginning but now they are mostly behaved. And like others are saying find way to enrich the ambient for them because they might get bored if they can't go for strolls.
Really sorry about what happened to your poor kitty and I hope that the bastard who did this get caught and imprisoned.

•I’m so sorry about the loss of your cat, that really sucks. We have a cat that we sort of turned into a indoor cat. We mostly just make sure to keep the doors shut so she can’t get out. She’s not always happy about it but she’s not safe outside so we have to keep her in. If you do make them indoor cats you should get lots of things for them to play with and maybe something for them to climb on so they can still zoom and hopefully not be bored.

•That's absolutely terrible - it's so frightening what people are willing to do ;_; I'm so sorry for your loss. My husband whom is a life long cat owner say that it's possible to turn them into indoor cats despite their age - you should just be aware that it'll take some adjustments (like anything else) and they'll probably not be happy about it. Not the slightest. However it'll definitely be worth it if it means they'll be safe. I wish you the best
