SUMMARY
I named Curly “Heartfeather” because of his desire to help people (even though that didnt work out well on the Tulpar) & because hes a pegasus. His friends nicknamed him Curly, while jimmy jokingly calls him “Feathers” which becomes a derogatory nickname post-crash
Jimmy is “Juniper Shadows” cus juniper is poisonous (?) and begins with J, and he lives in Curly’s shadow. His changeling name is “Maxilla” (an insect mouthpiece) due to his need to physically consume the love (admiration) everyone has for Curly, and also the love Curly gives him as a friend
This is why Curly and Jimmy became friends in the first place! Curly offered to befriend Jimmy to satiate his hunger, causing Jimmys dependency on Curly, which then falls apart after Jimmy crashes the ship. This explains why Jimmy eats Curly’s leg in the end: desperation & long-term starvation.
I chose “Hibiscus Sunset” for Daisuke because of his flower symbolism, and as reference to the broken sunset screen that foreshadows his death (“useless ray of goddamn sunshine”)
Swansea gave him the nickname “Hibiscus Daydreamer” because hes always slacking on the job thinking about hot babes
Anya’s name is “Moonlight Song” because of the symbolism of the nighttime window screen and full moon. I added “song” to the end cus it sounded graceful, and also her full name together sounds kinda mournful, which fits her I think
I was debating about making her a Kirin, but decided unicorn
Swanseas name is “Sandy Seas” from the “sea” part of his actual name and the colour of his fur. People call him “Swansea” as a nickname, and he introduces himself as that to anyone he meets
I wanted to put “swan” in his name cus of tHE sYmBoLIsM but I couldn’t find a way to make it sound right
Polle is still Polle, but I wrote the name in all capitals to show how much influence the company has over the crew, and how they are trapped by it
Also, the company is still called “Pony Express” cus “Ponyville” exists, so its not TOO weird
