HoplophoneusI’ve been trying to draw lots of Nimravids lately (if you’ve never heard of them then google, they’re a super cool group of extinct feliforms)) One of the many creatures I’m sad I will never get to see in person . It’s kinda tricky to draw an animal with no modern day close relatives (I mean all feliforms are distantly related to them but you get what I mean
Anyways yeah lots of it is kinda speculative but I tried. This particular variety of Nimravid has some pretty cool saber teeth and I was debating on whether I should show them on the outside of the mouth or not… I was finding conflicting sources of information on whether they were covered or not but ultimately I chose to cover them. Yeah. Maybe I’ll make some more drawings with the saberteeth showing because it looks coolOct 16, 2025
Mate, I don't think you would want to see those guys in real life, they'd probably rip you to pieces or something more realistic, they most definitely would rip you up. Sorry to burst the bubble of love you have for this extinct type of Feliforms. But, amazing art.
im not familiar with these guys but it looks great to me! it seems like many prehistoric felids & relatives had longer faces. gives them a neat uncanny look.
also the teeth thing is highly debated as far as i know, i like both depictions (chin pouches are easy to imagine tho, looking at the lower lips of modern cats and how the teef fit into them)
