When Marnie Was There

Are there any media you have engaged with that you couldn't stop crying? For me is "When Marnie Was There"

During the last summer break, I was able to find time to watch that Ghibli anime film again. As expected, I couldn't control the amount of tears rolling down my face, and it took me several days to recover
It's such a heartbreaking story that hurt me so much, yet it's a very beautiful one. As a marginalised person who struggles with social anxiety and often feels unwanted by others, I can emotionally and mentally relate to Anna on so many personal levels. After watching the film for the second time, it motivated me to borrow the original book by Joan G. Robinson from my local library, which has been on my reading list for a long time. The book didn't make me cry than expected, but the story still touched me. Although the anime has a few key differences, it still stayed faithful to the original book
Given the theme was "Ghibli" for the @shy_peoples_art_club weekly challenge, that gave me the excuse to finally draw my fanart of Marnie and Anna for the first time. I'm not particularly impressed with how the rendering turned out, but I do hope to draw them again.May 19, 2024
