False Eden
Something I've been working on for a while. Originally this was meant to be the cover of my webcomic Espero, but I felt it didn't portray the feelings I wanted like the cover I ended up making. Still, I like this illustration enough to finish it as a sort of self Christmas present
For context: this is Calipso (or Cali for short), the main character of my webcomic Espero. Here she's staying at a mysterious place that looks like a beautiful and sunny garden filled with beauty and life. Despite the apparent peaceful ambience, this is still an unknown place to her and while exploring it Cali finds the limits of said garden. There she gets to stare at her home, that seems to be in the darkness, cold, surrounded with fog, but mostly, far away from her reach.

•So, this is the famous Calypso! I've heard great things about her ^0^ My sympathies that this drawing didn't seem to fit the cover of your webcomic - this drawing is absolutely excellent!
First of all, I love the highlights in her hair It really reflects the brightness of the grass underneath her - I'm guessing the sun is shining brightly behind her. I think you did a great job with the lighting and shading on her hair, skin, and dress
The foreground elements are really interesting - such a bright, vibrant garden! The yellow-green grass underneath her feet, the viny plants crawling up the stone arch, the violet-red and pale blue flowers that dangle from the top of the archway And the little petals floating away in the wind! Those little details give this so much life! You even added little stains on the stone arch, which give it a very appropriate wear and tear; makes this place feel more real That texturing is just fantastic! And judging by the running water on each side, she must be... right on the edge of a waterfall? A bold location for a structure, especially with no guardrails on the most dangerous part...
In speaking of dangerous, the dark fog in the background gives this place such a sinister undertone. Coupled with the title, "False Eden," something tells me this place isn't as serene as it likes to portray...

•AUUU the context,,, even without it you can really get a feel of the contrast, with the colors and petals flowing in the wind but knowing shes looking out at her homeee :( i love the feel of this piece, i can practically feel what it would be like to be there
