Do you recommend first writing the whole plot and details of a story you want to illustrate or jumping in and creating ideas as you go?

Yes! But It depends on the story. Because if it's something complex like a thriller or a fantasy I would absolutely recommend to write the whole story first that way you could add foreshadowing and be clear where your story is headed. If it's something simpler, I'd still recommend it, but it can be like half the story and a general idea of how it will end.

I'd say it would depend on the kind of story you're doing. If it's a webcomic or just a short comic (maybe like a few pages or panels) I'd say that either is fine. If it's a much longer project like a full comic book or a graphic novel,, in my experience you want to have everything g written out and edited and rewritten and fixed and reread several times before starting on the finished thing. That might be just me but I find it's good to know the whole story before you start painting it with colors.

One-time comic writer here, so take my words with a grain of salt, but it’s kind of a mix of both. Definitely have a plot outline. Know what the beginning, middle, and end of your story is ahead of time. As you’re sketching out your first draft of the pages, think of details you want to include. Those things can come as you’re working.
As for finding 80s references, maybe try watching movies that came out during that era! Study the clothes and environments you see.

For me, I like having a rough sketch or idea of what to write. Kind of a script we could say! Look pinterest for the backgrounds, it has really helped me with references!

It depends on the person actually. Some work better if they come up with details about the plot and characters before hand, others work better doing little and just jumping in, and some work best with a bit of both. Personally I work best with a mix of the last two, but that’s just me. If I had to say, come up with a rough sketch first before hand and just start drawing/writing. It’s a bit scary at first but eventually you get used to it and improve! :))

hmm I think its a good idea to have an idea of all the plot points and stuff in the story before starting it but also be flexible with changes ^^

•for myself, i like to write down my ideas as i go; before turning it into something coherent. when i have a solid idea of what i want THEN id be doing the storyboards bc it helps me draft out the idea dkkdk ive been in reboot hell several times im not going in there anymore
