Black UnicornA day prior to creating this piece, I went to a career fair with my auxiliary youth group; and it was there that we were introduced to a doctor. She told us that since black female doctors are rare, they wear a small pin with an image black unicorn to let others know of their profession.
I found this to be interesting and charming in a way. The fact that women of colour as doctors are so hard to find can be so demoralizing. These proudly worn pins can instill hope in ways that inspire young black girls to reach their goals. I used this newfound knowledge to create this image of a beautiful fantastical humanoid unicorn with ivory black skin then giving her the name “Black Unicorn”May 2, 2022
