I get my wisdom teeth out in a few days does anyone have any advice I'm pretty scaredJun 27, 2025

when I had mine out, i regretted not eating sooner after the procedure. since I had to be fasted before being knocked out to prevent aspiration (food getting into the lungs). My stomach was totally empty and therefore I got really nauseous when i had to start taking the pain meds. More food in the stomach beforehand would help lessen that.
for soft foods; soup, pudding, and scrambled eggs were my saviors during this time. I was cautious to eat carefully, cuz dry socket terrified me lol (i just carefully maneuvered food past my molars as much as possible)

I was soo terrified of having mine taken out (I had all four removed at once) but it was so much less bad than expected. I only had local anaesthesia aka injections into my gums, and I also thought that part would be horrifyingly painful but it somehow really wasn't. It was kinda uncomfortable for a few seconds, that was it.
The most annoying part was for sure the healing process. I wasn't allowed to lie down to prevent too much blood going to my head and causing bleeding or something, so I had to sleep in a half-sitting position for like a week which was awful. I had one or two ice packs on my face at all times, but somehow STILL got swollen cheeks (but my brother, who got his removed too the same day, didn't) so make sure you cool your jaws enough to avoid swelling. The worst part for me was taking pain meds. I really hate taking any kind of pills, but having to take them for like two weeks straight helped me learn how to actually take them (before I'd put the pill somewhere in my mouth where I wouldn't taste its yucky taste but that made it hard to swallow it and made the experience so long and bad, but during that time I learnee that placing it on the back of your tongue is the best way to flush it down quickly. Common knowledge to some, but a big and helpful revelation to me lol)
Getting the stitches removed was also ao anticlimactic lmao I expected pain, or at least to feel SOMETHING but the guy really just did some stuff in my mouth really quick and was like "ok done" I didn't feel a single thing

OH ALSO HAVE A BATH OR SHOWER THE DAY OF OR DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE!!!! you are NOT gonna be in any state to for a little while afterwards & it's nice to feel clean while ur resting.
also make sure you have something for breakfast before going because your blood sugar needs to be appropriate before they extract the teeth, anything works. i had a cheese toastie and some marshmallows before my last one

•haven't had my wisdoms out yet but i am on the second week of healing from a surgical molar extraction. no matter where u sit, always have like 2 pillows behind you supporting ur back. maybe get a neck pillow if u can too. always stick to ur medication routine and make sure you take something like ibuprofen because that'll help calm down the swelling. ice ur cheeks for 15 mins every hour or so. and the usual.... make sure u get lots of rest. i was still able to draw after my procedure but i also had like 0 pain to deal with this time around since its my fifth molar removed
the actual procedure wont be that scary at all. typically ur put to sleep for wisdoms so i presume thats happening for u? i was put to sleep two years ago to have two bottom molars and one top molar removed & it was really simple. i had the drip put in to my hand (better if you don't look), i barely felt the anaesthesia go into me. they let me keep my comfort stuffed animal with me and only moved him down to my legs during the procedure. i was asleep within like 6 seconds i think. when i woke up i kept forgetting i was saying hi to my mama so i kept doing it over nd over LOL but other than that it had no negative affects on me ! they'll keep you there for a little bit afterwards to make sure the anaesthesia hasn't had a negative reaction to you (which im sure it wont since that's pretty rare) and then you'll be free to go. bring a blanket for the ride home you'll be a lot comfier. theres also the risk of vomiting afterwards so if ur prone to that maybe bring a vomit bag, though ive never thrown up after any of my extractions. you wont be able to talk at all for awhile so use ur notes app and messages to communicate. try not to walk around much or move too much so it doesn't raise ur blood pressure, in the first stage the blood clots are rlly fragile and this ends after around 2 days. still fragile after that though. i'm at 2 weeks and my hole is fully sealed now !
