So
In MnC, they can use a “basic charge” of magic by flexing their shoulders, and so a lot of tech uses that as a sort of ignition, cuz while a basic charge rarely accomplishes anything but burning stuff like paper, inventors can process things down until they actually will react to it. Thus, the trigger here in the pic is more of a ‘turn safety off’ kind of thing, and the actual trigger is applying a basic charge.
Some combinations of fuel might not require any charge, but rather just having the liquids in the gun mixed, however because you can switch out the canisters for different effects, and some require a basic charge to work, it was more convenient to have the standard gun type account for it
