When it comes to playing games, reading stories, watching TV, ect-
What makes them immersive/ makes you feel like you're apart of the story?
Personally I think making the main character relatable but still someone you want to be is always my favorite. Of course having likable support characters that don't crash into poorly done cliches that ruins their backstory helps too-
When it comes to games where you can customize your character, that doesn't make me feel apart of the story, since they feel like emotionless beings that you can't pin a personality on them.
Fire emblem does a great job in my opinion, since you can customize the character, but they have a set personality I can enjoy. (Robin is my all time favorite and I won't apologize-)Dec 11, 2022

Games like rdr2 where your choices actually effect the game no matter how small they may be. I always try to be as good as possible in a game so it’s nice when other characters appreciate that. Also games where characters can talk to you and send messages, it seems kinda silly but I like it when characters talk to you just cuz they want to outside of the main story. Feels like I’m getting to know a real person you know.
Those really nice and friendly characters that you just know are gonna die also help, I get so attached to them that once they die I tend to feel the same way as the other characters so it makes me feel more connected to them.
I’ve found that games that can be played in first person are way more immersive than a third person one, it’s the same with books. A first person story just hits different you know.

•Tbh I’ll watch/play/read anything as long as it has at least 1 character I can become obsessed with and base my personality on liking them for a period of time.
Other than that I like fantasy, and anything with cool world building is good

•For all media, it's the characters and the world building and the experiences and relationships with the story itself.
I don't have to relate to anyone, it can even be completely divisive, if there's a work that peak my interest in the way that it's told, then I'm there for the ride (:

Filler content makes me more attached, actually! I want to see things that aren't necessary to the plot---show me the characters doing pointless daily tasks, give me trivial worldbuilding about the setting, show me side characters that have no importance outside of a few scenes, bring up vague history that doesn't get brought up again.....
All of my fave media are things that make the setting/world feel big and detailed enough to actually be lived in, but vague enough that the fans can apply their own ideas and headcanons to it!
Too much plot/action can make the story move too fast for the audience to feel "at home" and care about the characters....it's the reason why I zone out and feel indifferent towards a lot of shows and movies. Give me a chance to slow down and actually get to know everyone so I can really be invested when the conflict kicks in!

•I guess the story, and characters, and good art like animation and such. I guess I don’t really think that much, I play or read, or etc and if it’s good it’s good I don’t think much after. Sorry if that’s not good. I’m bad at thinking hard about why I like stuff.

•Games like 'Borderlands' and 'Call of Duty' games immerse you by making you hate the villain.
For example: In Borderlands 2 they make you hate the villain 'Hansome Jack' by having him do villainous things such as murder main characters and do abhorrent things.
At the start of the game, you don't like him. By the end of the game you despise him and are immersed in the mission of ending him.
You hate Handsome Jack and want to beat him, stopping his tyranny. It brings emotion into a pretty comedic game.
By the end, it's cathartic beating him and ending your mission.
