My ocs came from doodling. I just sit there and draw whatever comes to mind and if I like it I’ll give them a name POOF! My ocs are born

You just listen to a good song and make up a story like a music video on the spot. Then just listen to it over & over again until you remember it.

I tend to take inspiration from other characters I enjoy and take aspects of that character and mash them with another character I like. I keep working on their design until it looks original enough to be mine, and then I then let them sit for a while. If I come back to them I keep them :)

You don't need any background or special features, really. OCs are amazing because there are really no rules how to do something, or do anything in a certain way. You can pick any style, chlothes, outfits you like and throw them together, Bam, you made an oc!
Or, if you wanna dive into storytelling, think about what kind of character you would like to see somewhere, and do that. If you're unsure about creating a whole world, just think of a character in this world, or pick any universe (anything, really - your favorite show, a comic from your childhood, anything) and think about what character you would want to see there!
Don't worry about Mary sues or anything, just go in and enjoy yourself!

For me personally, my ocs just pop up through inspiration from songs or shows/theatre stuff. Or even doodling and just scribbling out human’s and starting to get attached to them. Often their style and character build up as I go on with them.
Though it happens sometimes that a character just doesn’t have that special something and eventually gets put aside/trashed.
