I really like warm and colourful tones and darker in aesthetic too like Neil Gaiman's and Tim Burton's style. I find Hayao Miyazaki's style to be the most influential one to me because of it's tone, and painterly effects in his concept art.

Depends but if we were talking about specifics like storytelling I would say 19th-20th century realism and illustration (Repin, Rockwell, Cornwell, Schaeffer, etc) along with modern illustration and comics (Zaffino, Lee, Shanyar, Jimenez etc)
