I would say cute characters tend to have exaggerated proportions/features. Characters that I would describe as hot, tend to have more realistic features.

I think a lot of it comes down to personal preference and what you find hot in like, facial features and whatnot? If you look at other styles that you find hot, what are some consistencies you're noticing? :O It might come down to proportions in the face, or how you draw eyes, or little details like that!
