Feel free

A gift for someone on dA!
First time working with procreate and it wasn’t easy but I think I’m getting the hang of it.

If anyone has any tips, feel free to drop them. I kinda like the way this turned out considering I’m still getting used to the program, but it still feels like something is wrong and I can’t put my finger on what it is.
Maybe some critique about the lighting and shading, or about the water could help.

I might make a youtube channel and post the speedpaint of this on there but I’m still unsure about that 😅

This is so nice! I stared at it for ages as I saw you're asking for critique but I couldn't think of anything haha. BUT! I thought maybe the area where the tail is coming out of the water could be more "splashy" if that makes sense? It's so so cute and vibrant!
Very pretty water!! Your piece has a lot of potential to be dynamic with exaggerating the water. Grab a reference photo of a dolphin leaping out of the water and try to emulate the splash and sprays of water in motion. Some texture spray brushes will help with that. It will be a quick add to your illustration! 🙂
I think you captured a solid mood with the background lighting. As for critique, there are two things that come to mind for me:

1) where your creature is exciting the water, I would say the surface looks too flat. The white foam is nice, but it's still basically a smooth break in the water; I think the exit point shouldn't be so consistently level with the water surface.

2) At first glance, the light cream colour of the creature gets a little lost against the light blue-grey of the background (maybe the shadows match the background too closely?). I would consider doing something to set the subject a little more apart from the background, whether that's a slight colour adjustment or making the shadows a little bolder, or something else.
Omg this is so cute! I love the water and little fishes and the lighting 💕 The contrast of warm and cold colors is also superb!

As for what may be wrong, it's probably that you're missing some harsh shadows on the catfish (?). Now it seems a bit blur, too smooth, if you know what I mean.

Then again, I do the same all the time bc I somehow find harsh shadows difficult to draw 😅
I don’t really have much in the way of critique, but I love the way the water looks! And the design of your creature is just so cool.
The way you rendered the water is gorgeous, I really like the composition and the colors too! The character pops really well on that sort of overcast background 💕
I think maybe what looks off is that you could add more shadows to everything maybe? I know overcast lighting sort of diffuses light everywhere but, a bit darker shadows towards its underside/more contrast between its legs that are closer to the viewer and further away from the viewer might help. Water also has a cool effect though of casting bounce light onto things in most lighting, so you could play around with that too possibly?
Sorry if this didn't help much fhshfkg but I like it as is!
