So I’m in this process again of having to build my skill back up again after both a period of not drawing and an interruption of creative flow(specifically due to finally going back to work which drastically changed my sleep/production schedule). If any of you deal with this sort of thing a lot, what is your process of getting back into your groove?

I have my own process which usually involves looking back at specific artists sketches/videos that I drew specific inspiration from and going through all my art books that really helped me in the past. Sometimes I take break. Might actually be what I need right now, but there’s so much I have planned 😭. Guess I’ll figure it out lol

Mostly mine is to go really easy on myself. If I want to draw fifty paintings of apples... do that. I try and avoid pushing myself to paint things that I dont 10000% habe a deep and burning desire to paint for a while.
I think just being more selfish with what you’re drawing? I’d say my art is self indulgent where I don’t think about what’s popular or what I might think ppl would want to see. That and if I’m feeling uncreative, I go back to the basics and just force myself to practice.
I tend to just draw little things :). I have these ocs, so when I’ve taken a break from drawing for a while, I focus on drawing my characters again and making sure I still understand their basic traits. Often anatomy can become a problem lol, so I just draw different bodies until I’m happy I have the correct structure :)💗
Random doodles, really. Just to get the juices flowing and maybe a bit of warm up. If any particular doodle catches my interest, I might work on it a bit more. Maybe turn it into an actual finished piece if I have the time and motivation.
This happens to me pretty often too. To shake off the dust, I often will draw things that are super low pressure for me like plants, trees, even just eyes. Just to get comfortable drawing again.
I guess what I do is try out a new medium that I have either never used or haven’t done it a while. It might seem overwhelming at first but if you can push through, I often find myself excited thinking of new project ideas, even if it’s not in that particular medium, just use it the techniques and style I learn through the process. I hope that helps 💓
I just try to draw stuff I like from movies, anime or whatever. Just let it flow, don't push yourself, actually enjoy what you do. That will give you some momentum before getting more "serious" like with complex illustrations, anatomy and the like
