Working on fine silk
I bought some very lightweight silk with a moire effect, it was very expensive... (But worth it, I bought it in a shop that only sells leftovers from the fashion industry).I was very intimidated, couldn't bring myself to cut my pattern in it because "what if I mess up and waste this precious fabric ?!" (Note: I know this pattern very well and made a few clothes with it)
A video of Cornelius Quiring gave me a confidence boost by giving me a simple tip to mark on fabric : a piece of soap bar. It marks beautifully and disappear in cold water very easily.
On the picture, I fixed my fabric on pattern paper (it's a thin paper, one could also use tissue paper or baking sheets) to stabilize it and despite the orange/brown color of my soap (it's bee's wax soap) it marks white like chalk and glides smoothly.Feb 22, 2025
