The results of my coloring test for my new sketchbook

This post is more like a note-to-self / reference for me, but I guess it would be interesting to post it here so that it would give an idea about my drawing process. TLDR: I've tested out my art materials and thankfully my new sketchbook is suitable for color pencil drawings. Mixing crayons and colored pencils don't work well so far though.

A few days ago I got a new sketchbook. Whenever I get a new sketchbook I do some practice sketches and doodles first to see how my fave mediums work on the paper. This is my main art style when drawing something "seriously" compared to when I do casual and random sketches.

For the drawing at the top, I tried to combine crayons and colored pencils. Unfortunately, it seems the colored pencils don't blend well with the crayons. The crayons were used as base colors and were applied first, while the colored pencils were for shading.

The girl with purple hair had the materials used the other way around. The colored pencils were applied first so I worked dark to light. The result was okay I guess but I dunno, it feels off as well.

The third one, the girl with green hair, was colored using color pencils only.

I was also doing some experimentation on drawing eyes for a drawing I'm planning to do in the future.

I guess the paper's good for color pencils in general.

Materials used: Crayola crayons, Faber Castell Colored Pencils (my favorite medium!).
