Ayato is dumb as a box of hammers.

There is something about him that just screams “no thoughts head empty.”
He has the look and feel of a jellyfish badly pretending to be a human man.

It just feels fitting for him to be interested in other bugs and not just Onikabutos. I feel like if he would see any bug in the wild, like a scarab, he'd go "Oh boy, would you look at that scarab over there! Carrying that dirtball like a champ! Actually, did you know that they could take an Onikabuto in a fight? Pretty amazing, don't ya think? :D"
