Sounds like Webtoons contract is a scam. I don’t know much about contract terms, but my understanding of this is someone could spend years writing and illustrating a story good enough to get them a contract, only for Webtoons to swoop in and buy 100% of the IP for “pennies” and the creator to be left destitute while the IP goes on to make THEM millions in residuals on movie or show deals? There’s other predatory practices too (see the links)

Always have to be careful in getting contracts with publishers and I didn't feel too good about Webtoon's contractor program because of my lack of trust in pretty much most large corporations and companies and the fact your work has to be "exclusive" to Webtoon's platform. If I were to go "official" I'm thinking of going with Image Comics to publish physical copies of my work because at least the writers & artists are able to keep their IPs under their control and still keep the web versions up on the internet. I do plan on using Webtoon Canvas and Tapas since they are the most popular places for web comics readers and hope I get enough support on Patreon and Ko-fi to supplement my income.

•I heard of it, and it's awful :( I wish webtoon wasn't the most well-known place to read webcomics, because I really wanna post a comic someday, and I want it to reach people! I'm sure it's mostly safe to stay in Canvas, but it makes me doubt. Specially because there are a lot of comics there and it's hard to get yours in the spotlight

•Ah I deleted my Twitter account last year so I can't see the replies but it definitely makes one pause. Any more I've seen, the best way to go is to use webtoon for exposure, stay on canvas and enable ads when you can all the while encouraging readers to financially support you through patreon or kofi. I had heard about shady things happening back in 2022. It's disappointing that they haven't used this feedback to improve.
