Have a basic idea of something you know you'll enjoy thinking about and keep working based on that.
You don't need to make everything at once, I've been working with my ocs for years, always have in mind that the first idea will probably go to shit after a few years, sometimes your oc kinda changes as you change? you can always add and take out any stuff you want.
Avoid putting so much different stuff in just one character, if there's way too many random traits it usually looks oversaturated, just as a tip.
I would recommend try to make the character recognizable in the sense of you can automatically have a concept, idea, aesthetic or vibe in mind whenever you think about the oc. Also, when you are creating a character it helps when you can see part of their personalities by body lenguage (a shy character will maybe try to make themselves small or invisible, for example)
You don't need to follow any logical rule, just add whatever you want, magic, hybrids, parallel universes, make everyone a different creature, you don't need to be loyal to real life, a lot of my worldbuilding is just spite and me wanting to do whatever I want with society

•....is a good question, really. I have over a dozen of completely solid ocs, personality, looks, story and all, and I have absolutely no idea where they all come from. I have been wondering about this for years but I never manage to track their origins. Those little shits just appear in my brain one day as a 65% completed concept and then within the next 2 weeks they develop the missing 35% at such a rapid pace that i have no chance to keep up with or figure out the actual process, and then BOOM - new person is there

•Hmm a lot of my ocs come from what I like so the music I listen to (a lot of punk and goth bands and some groovy disco esque songs) and the way that I dress (sometimes pretty goth and sometimes colorful and tacky). Some of them are just parts of me whether they're good or bad traits and in a way it's kind of a self reflection thing haha. And in terms of trying to make sure the character looks like the same person every time u draw u just have to keep drawing them over and over again and have character sheets :00

•I always like to conceptualise my OCs by writing down notes/draw their first design, if I like it I always would plan out concept art for them and mash up the design elements that I love and plan out their final design in which I did that as a method in college when I did my finals

•Honestly most of my ocs personalities came before the deign then it was well I really want this ones hair to be in his face 24/7. And oh he would look cute with frcekles exc important not to rush yourself tho cause for a good oc that you'll keep for a REALLY long time you need to love their deign enough to draw it lots, but still be open to tweak it yk?

as for taking inspiration from myself, back when i had long curly hair, i felt like my hair was a foot longer than it was, so i used to draw my hair as a big and poofy as possible because thats how i felt.

•You don't have to! You can just draw different characters every time. Technically - if it's not a character someone else created, or a real person - all characters you draw are your ocs.
And in how do you create one - just go with what you enjoy. Like characters with red hair? Bam, give ur oc red hair. Same with facial features, chlitges, personality, hobbies... Anything you like, find interesting or just think would fit in the moment you're drawing. There are no rules, just different ways to go about it.
