Pose studies (references by SenshiStocks)
If I'm being honest, I'm a very insecure person. But I want to become more confident, so even if I feel like these pose studies aren't perfect I want to put them out here instead of hiding my progress.I already know what I don't like about these. They're stiff, and I don't know how to connect the legs to the torso in a way that looks natural. I think I could have exaggerated the poses some more too.
Maybe some of the arms are a bit too long? I haven't figured out how to improve these things yet, so I want to post this and get some feedback. Then I can apply the feedback to the next set of studies I'll do.
I want to show more of the art that I don't like. After all, these are the drawings I can learn the most from, and it'd be stupid to limit myself by denying feedback.Apr 20, 2021

This is what I learned in school for fashion illustration, so it may be different for others When I do gestures, I draw a head, the line of the spine, then three lines for shoulders, waist, and hips. The top and bottom ones are usually in opposite angles. Then I do circles like you did for shoulders and knees, but also the elbows. The rest should just fill in with simple suggestions of the shape to emphasize the dynamic movement of the body. Worry about correcting proportions and accurate shapes when/if you do a second or third pass.

•as for the torso, i usually draw a box for it and another for the pelvis and a line to connect them that would represent the position of the spine. since this is internal structure how this connection ends up looking depends a lot on the model and how much muscle or body fat they have, so really my only advice is to keep studying and using references, but you’re doing really good so far!! (and btw, i use line-of-action for refs, you can set timers for every picture and they even have a class mode where you start with like 30s poses and work your way up) hope this helps!

•the elbow should be at waist-level and the length from shoulder to elbow should be the same as elbow to wrist, so i think you got that right and the arms look good :>
