Taking the long way is ALWAYS WORTH IT. This doesn’t apply to clothing, it’s honestly just sewing in general!
So what I mean by this is that it’s always worth taking your time with it to make sure your pattern is correct, you cut out the fabric carefully & slowly (especially if your scissors are poo), painstakingly pinning everything together with the pins basically less than an inch apart, hand-sewing tricky spots instead of trying to rush it with the machine because the machine is “faster,” double checking your measurements, ironing your fabric before sewing it, washing your fabric before ever cutting anything out (if you can, something like faux fur might not work for washing beforehand!), ironing the seam allowance apart (after it’s sewn together, should look like an open book), etc.
It’s easy to mess stuff up & run into more problems down the road if you don’t take the time to do every little thing. And, you can do every little thing & still mess it up! Sewing is kinda hard, (so much thinking in reverse & inside out makes my own head hurt!
) So having patience is probably required if you wanna sew anything at all, probably moreso since you want to make clothes!

•My only tip is more of a my opinion thing I guess I've seen others do and say otherwise but if you're gonna make kinda bad stuff to practice you might as well make it things you could feasibly use because even if it turns out too bad to use you have the practice in an area that will help you later. Like there isn't much point at me at this time in my sewing journey learning how to make a modern formal dress for instance because I don't need to know how to make one. So even my waistcoat I've worn once was a better time investment because I not only have more experience sewing now but I also have more experience sewing waistcoats, something I'd actually want to make in the future, even if I don't like that particular one.
