Day 25: „Water“ 🌊

#peachtober
After getting a bit stuck in the same Peachtober routine every day, I really wanted to get loose for this one, as in: do no preliminary sketch on the paper, just dive in with my paintbrushes and put a full landscape painting together in a short timeframe. 🖌 And I actually finished this in a little over an hour! I was very happy to find that not every painting needs to take ages in order to look presentable 😜
.
The reference photo for this was taken on my old Samsung phone back in 2015 (I think?) To me, it‘s a beautiful memory of one of the last times I went to one of New Zealand‘s magical beaches with my host family before I left for Germany again. The moon came out while we were there and it was as if the country I had called my home for 1,5 years (the best of my life, really) was bidding me goodbye in a quiet manner while revealing its full marvel to me as a keepsake for later. I do admit I cried a bit that day, very quietly.
I have missed Aotearoa ever since, as NZ is called in Māori - the land of the long white cloud. ☁️ But I also know if I went back to visit now, it wouldn‘t be the same as when I was seventeen.
.
Did you guys ever deeply fall in love with a country, either doing an exchange yourself or on your travels? I‘d love to hear of a place that you‘ll always carry in your heart even if life got you living elsewhere. 🌬

That's a great painting, and a great photograph of it. I understand the feeling you describe. I remember vacations at my grandfather's home. Last week I came across an old photo of my father as a young man at the beach nearby. It made me really long for those summer days from my childhood.
this is absolutely beautiful! landscapes have always been a daunting obstacle for me, but this is so inspiring! 🌻💙
