C-PTSD
Trigger Warnings: PTSD and C-PTSD mention, Mental Illness.Bit of a personal vent piece back in early February. I decided to finally seek help and talk to a therapist, and I got diagnosed with c-ptsd(complex post traumatic stress disorder).
It was a really big eye-opener as to how my brain works, and why I am the way I am. I'm taking steps to learn how to cope with it better, learn to be more forgiving of myself and respect my own boundaries, recognizing what triggers me, etc.
The way my therapist described how my c-ptsd functions is like there are these three main structures. A manager, a protector, and an exile. A manager is what I try to be/appear like to other people, a protector is a side that protects/defends you whenever that stress is triggered(being unnecessarily angry, tense, and/or defensive), and the exile is the more vulnerable, child-like side that's hidden away deep down, but can sometimes appear if the trigger is too overwhelming to the point where you relive that same trauma from way back then.
All of my OCs have parts of me in them in some way, but in all honesty I think a majority of my mental health issues is the most prevalent in Serenade/Lyron. So I wanted to sort of vent stuff out and illustrate my struggle with c-ptsd by using him as a guinea pig.
Remember guys, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you feel as if you need it. You are not weak or crazy for reaching out to others, you're doing wonders for yourself.
