Within Our Thoughts (2/2)

I did not expect this series to take just over a year. Originally, I was hoping it would all be done within a couple of months (lol). I had to shut up the voice in my head telling me I was too slow. I felt bad for taking so much time, but at some point I realised that I absolutely needed to give each painting the love and care it deserved.

I would not have been happy with myself if I had rushed it all, and that’s the beautiful part about a personal series. I had no deadlines, no reason to rush, and over time I figured out ways of being more efficient and, ironically, when I didn’t think about my speed, it started coming to me.

This series has been heavily influenced by lofigirl, Margaux Peltat and Djamila Knopf. The countless hours spent listening to lofi beats and reflecting on myself were instrumental in why my art started changing, and finding out more of Djamila’s story gave me a lot of drive to keep going and stay focused.

Now that it’s finished I just feel satisfied (and tired!). I’m really grateful for all the people that have helped me along the way, not least of which have been my parents. I’m really looking forward to where my art journey takes me next, and I want to encourage you all to keep working on your art and pushing forward!Jun 7, 2021
