one tip would be to add more line variety! You could also try simply doing thicker lines, or to clean up sketches instead of doing lineart on a different layer! I'd also suggest drawing different parts of the lineart on a different layer and then merging it with the og lineart layer, tho I'm not entirely sure about this tip lol
I find it's because sketches have a lot of variety to them
Dark lines, lighter lines
Thickness of variable size, it pleases the brain as it has lots of interesting 'texture' to it
Not to say clean lineart is bad, of course it isn't!
Recently I have found that if I try not to be "too perfect" with my art, it looks and flows better :>
There’s one tip that works, I don’t like doing it myself but it works:
Practice traditional sketching with a non erasable pen. Yeah. Try it. It’s painful. But trust me it works, it’ll improve your lineart by a lot
Use your sketch as your lineart! I have a hard time doing any kind of lineart and it’s the only method I’ve found that works
YES PLEASE!!! I need solutions too
Yes because a sketch is more spontaneoud and can offer multiple line interpretation. Lineart is defined and meticolous. Also when you learn to draw generally you learn to sketch, but lineart id a whole different skill so of course you don't automatically succeed in it and you have to learn it separately from sketching.
I recommend just practIcing several types of lines, precision, and starting inking not on a sketch but on an already defi es pencil drawing, so you can only focus on inking and not also interpreting the sketch. If you are not yet used to your inking tools, using them to write can help (ot helped me)
This may be due to your sketches having thick/unconfident lines! Your brain will find the best lines within the sketch which makes it seem better than the lineart (the lineart is already carefully crafted so your brain only sees what IS there instead of what COULD be)! The best advice I can think of (if this is the root of the issue) is to practice condifent sketches (a long solid line instead of many short ones) with thinner brush sizes!

Another thing I've noticed as someone who uses thick lineart, is that thick lines can stiffen up a drawing! You may have to modify your brush sizes/vary your line thicknesses (if that's also a cause).
Cleaning the scetches, or leaving them with low opacity under the lines helps me a lot~

If you really like clean lineart then varying your line weight and getting rough shadows in quick helps keeping stuff from looking flat
It’s because our brain has the mechanic to automatically upscale images to 4K quality. Ur sketches with clumsy lines gave more room to ur brain as no lines r fixed to a certain position yet, ur lineart on the other hand looks ugly because everything is settled.
Same lol, in the end I always think that the sketch looked better/had more personality (even though most of my sketches look pretty horrible). ;w;
Yeah, I think this is a universal experience? The best way to deal with this is to start cleaning your sketches instead of doing line art over them
