Welcome to the Creepy Cabin

How are my colors and values? What are some tips for rendering trees and other plants? Lastly, how can I make background elements stand out without lineart?

I've been practicing my backgrounds for the past year, and it's really helped me improve the overall look of my work, PBTA! I'd like for my backgrounds to be able to stand on their own without blurring effects and characters. Any feedback is much appreciated! πŸ˜Šβœ¨πŸ’•

i think this background looks great and would work well depending on what you’re using it for πŸ‘πŸ‘
one quick way to make the house stand out (if that’s what you meant by background elements standing out), you could push some of the trees further into the distance. to do that, you can just paint over them with blue at low opacity, and it makes them look further into the atmosphere. that way the values of the house would stand out more too (i think)

I recommend this Ghibli brush set I saw online! Idk the original artist but you can still find it
You can use it to lay in and block out the basics but you'd still have to render the foliage out yourself
To prevent tiring yourself out from rendering a lot you can pay less and less attention to darker areas! I mean, they're not the focal point so no need to pay extra detail
