Thinking aloud but I think one of the reasons artfol feels so much nicer than other social media right now is that it's smaller, it's quieter, you don't feel like you have to be here all the time for fear of missing something "important".
Environments like Tumblr and (the website formerly known as) twitter are so fast-paced. Everyone else seems to be making so much art, they seem so constantly inspired and excited and raring to go, and its so hard to match that energy when you're deeply dissatisfied with your own work and you're not constantly inspired and constantly making New Things and feeling good about them. Makes me feel a bit crazy to be honest.
It's like how Instagram has a marked impact on peoples' self-esteem because it's full of photos of everyone else's seemingly-perfect lives, and it's designed to trap the user in a scrolling loop, or something.
Artfol is so much easier to drop and run, or to only check in when you have the energy to engage.Sep 18, 2023

Major sites that run on ad revenue rely on FOMO to keep people checking and using it. A lot of artists who are successful on those sites have to create a lot to keep up. Some can handle it...others...not so much.
