So today I’ve decided to tell some stories about my father’s crimes against small birds

⚠️CW: smol bird deaths(?)⚠️

Crime #1: (within the past year)
so we get eggs from someone with chickens (fresh eggs really do hit different). One day my dad was about to cook up some eggs and when he looked in the carton a chick was trying to get out of one of the eggs,,, so he put it in the backyard and went about his day, showing no signs of guilt.

At this point, I’ve accepted that my father is a sociopath and my trust is at an all time low… or so I thought-

Crime #2: (a few months later, current time - a few days ago)
my mother, who is deathly afraid of birds, found a small, most likely injured, bird in our driveway. Just loafing. Didn’t move or anything when she got close to it, but allegedly still alive. She tells my dad to back out of the driveway before she gets in the car so she doesn’t step on the bird. Now, my dad may be a heartless monster who would cast away the life of a small being that had already braved the cold temperatures of our refrigerator, but he’s smart enough not to waste his time arguing with my mother. So he backs out, my mom gets in, and he tells her something along the lines of “something will probably eat it before we get back.” 😐 and it was indeed gone when they got back

*for some context, there was once a time when my mother happened upon a bird in our tipped over garbage bin being eaten by a hawk. We’ve got predatory birds in our area. Also coyotes, they’re very loud-

RIP small birds, if only you had been at a different house at a different time…
